Margaret “Maggie” Bryan, Past President Retired CEO of Shriners Hospital for Children - Northern California

A native of Northern California, Maggie, now retired, led a distinguished career as an executive in healthcare. She joined Shriners Hospitals for Children, following 12 years at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, where she served in a number of high-level executive positions culminating as the Associate Director of Hospitals and Clinics responsible for the UCSF Children’s Hospital.

Maggie came to Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California to assume the complex challenge of building a new regional pediatric medical center, mounting entirely new clinical initiatives in the Sacramento area and transitioning all of the clinical operations and patient care services from the now closed San Francisco Shriners Hospital to Sacramento. Under Maggie’s leadership, the Northern California Shriners Hospital grew to be the largest, busiest and most complex of the 20 Shriners Hospitals in the United States. During her tenure, the hospital treated more than 70,000 children, launched a collaborative research program, and established the Institute of Pediatric Regenerative Medicine.

Maggie earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a double-masters in Public Policy and Health Care Administration, at the University of California, Berkeley.
